Racine County: Car crash involving five motorcycles injures six people

RACINE COUNTY -- Six people in total were injured following a collision that involved a car and five motorcycles on State Highway 83 at County L in Racine County on Saturday morning, June 4th.The accident occurred around 10:00 a.m.Racine County officials say five motorcycles and a car were traveling southbound, and a group of 10 additional motorcycles were traveling northbound.One of the southbound motorcycles was slowing down to avoid hitting a car, when it collided with another motorcycle behind it -- which then struck a third motorcycle in the group of riders headed northbound.Authorities say one person from the crash was transported by Flight for Life.

Public meeting with experts set for June 7th amid severe bluff erosion in Racine, Kenosha counties

50 facing charges since fall after Racine Co. drug unit, DEA teamed up to stop sale of prescription drugs

RACINE COUNTY -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office say 50 suspects have been identified and taken into custody since the fall of 2015 -- when the "Metro Drug Unit" and the Milwaukee DEA teamed up for a large scale operation focused on combating rampant prescription painkiller diversion, misuse and addiction in Racine County.Sheriff's officials say this investigation has focused on street level opiate dealers in Racine who are illegally selling prescription drugs.The investigation has revealed the most common drugs being sold on the street are Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Adderall and Xanax.According to a news release issued by Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling, investigators utilized a "Prescription Drug Monitoring Program" to identify prescribers -- and doctors were then contacted and informed of their patient's illegal activity.

RACINE -- Racine authorities say 23-year-old Andrew Leland -- a minimum-security inmate at Sturtevant Transitional Facility that walked away from a work release job site was captured on Monday evening, May 2nd.Officials were searching for Leland since Monday afternoon.Leland’s prior offense includes perjury before the court.

Probation for Madison man, accused of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor

RACINE COUNTY -- A Madison man, accused of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor, has been sentenced.53-year-old Mark Lentz in February pleaded no contest to a felony charge of attempted second degree sexual assault of a child.In court on Monday, April 25th, Lentz was sentenced to serve four years in prison and three years extended supervision.

Man, woman arrested after 40 pounds of marijuana found in home in Sturtevant

STURTEVANT -- Two 57-year-old Sturtevant residents were arrested on Wednesday, April 20th as agents with the Racine County Sheriff's Office's Metro Drug Unit served a search warrant at a home there.Officials say 40 pounds of marijuana was located in the home on 90th Street, along with marijuana plant material and schedule II narcotic medications.Agents also discovered evidence in a detached garage that there had been a marijuana grow operation which appeared to have been recently dismantled.A 59-year-old man and 59-year-old woman were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of schedule II narcotics with intent to deliver.PHOTO GALLERY

Man arrested for OWI after search utilizing K-9 officers, "thermal night vision" following crash

RACINE COUNTY -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office on Friday night, had to use K-9 officers and "thermal night vision" technology to locate a suspect arrested for OWI after a crash in the Town of Burlington.Sheriff's officials say shortly before 8:00 p.m., a 911 call came in from a concerned citizen who reported a vehicle had passed him traveling at approximately 100 miles-per-hour, before crashing on State Highway 83 at Pine Street north of Schaal Road.K-9 Nitro and K-9 Friday responded to the scene with their handlers to assist in a search for the suspect -- who exited his vehicle and fled on foot after the crash.The K-9 officers and deputies using thermal night vision technology tracked the suspect for over a quarter-mile through fields and wooded areas.The 23-year-old Kenosha man was eventually located and arrested.
