MILWAUKEE -- The UWM arts building was temporarily closed Wednesday morning, October 4th as police investigated a suspicious package.Authorities were called to the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.According to school officials, the package was investigated and "found to be no danger to the campus community." The art building has since reopened.

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) launched on Monday, October 2nd the new Department of Black and Latino Male Achievement.A news release from MPS says "this department will work specifically address the glaring disparities in academic and life outcomes for young men and boys of color and to implement programs that improve their lives."On Monday, the new staff, city leaders and students met at Pulaski High School to discuss how this new effort will positively impact young men and boys of color, MPS and the city.As part of Monday's launch, students also took part in a variety of interactive stations including:

MILWAUKEE -- There are about 50 students from Puerto Rico attending Marquette University and they've organized a relief drive to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.According to a news release, the drive will take place on Saturday, September 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union located at 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue.Organizers are asking people to bring batteries, flashlights, bottled water, canned food, medicine, first aid kits, personal hygiene items, mosquito repellent, towels, battery powered fans, cleaning supplies, feminine care, garbage bags, toilet paper and blankets.In addition, Marquette has invited students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to a solidarity dinner Saturday night, Sept. 30th.The news release says in the wake of Hurricane Maria, Marquette’s Campus Ministry sent an email to students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean offering support and prayers and expressing concern for their well-being.
