49th and Mill shooting

The backstory:

The shooting happened late on Jan. 24, and police were called to a hospital just after midnight on Jan. 25. The 33-year-old victim died less than 15 minutes after he was admitted, according to a criminal complaint. The medical examiner's office identified the victim as Jharvez Reid.

Detectives found five bullet casings at the intersection of 49th and Mill. Prosecutors said doorbell camera video captured the shooting, and investigators began to look for additional video to identify and locate a suspect vehicle.

Milwaukee shootings Friday; 1 dead, 1 wounded

Separate shootings in Milwaukee on Friday, Jan. 24 left one person dead and another wounded.

What they're saying:

Detectives spoke to the victim's brother. He said, per the complaint, that they were driving east on Mill Road when, near 60th Street, a white vehicle sped past them. Reid – the driver – became upset with the vehicle and caught up with it at a stop light, where Reid appeared to argue with the people in the vehicle.

The brother said they began to pull away when he heard multiple gunshots, according to court filings. Reid then said he was shot, and their vehicle came to a stop. The brother then put Reid in the backseat and drove them to the hospital.

Ultimately, the complaint states investigators identified and located the suspect vehicle: a white Toyota.

Court filings said a witness told police the victim's truck had cut off the vehicle Hodges was in near 60th and Mill. Both vehicles were "slowing down and speeding up" until they stopped side-by-side in the middle of the street. The witness said Hodges and someone in the truck exchanged words before Hodges – who had a "big gun" – shot at the truck multiple times.
