MPD officer in squad struck pedestrian, video released

Milwaukee police released on Wednesday, Oct. 1, video associated with an incident in which a police squad struck a pedestrian near 20th and Lapham.

MPD releases video

What we know:

Milwaukee police were dispatched to a call near 20th and Hampton around 11 a.m. on Sept. 16, to check on the welfare of a woman who was walking in and out of the street. 

According to the medical examiner, the woman, later identified as Hayley Linville, was reportedly acting erratically, so bystanders called the police.

The responding police squad, which was traveling slowly, ran over Linville while she was lying at the entrance of the alley.

Linville was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased by medical staff.

The officer involved is a 44-year-old man with more than 18 years of service. He was placed on administrative duty, as is routine.

Woman killed after being struck by MPD squad, aunt speaks out

The family of a woman killed after being hit by an MPD squad still has a lot of questions.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Waukesha Police Department is the lead agency.

Two weeks after her death, her mother says she is still searching for answers and accountability.

"It’s an emptiness – it’s a pain. It’s hearing the voice in the back of my head and knowing I will never see her again," said Robin Linville, Hayley’s mother. "She did not die a peaceful death. that will haunt me for the rest of my life."

An autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

"Their investigation is going to show what it shows," Robin Linville said. "I would not wish this on anyone. And if I can stop this from happening to another family, I am going to do whatever I can to."

She said she will continue to fight for her daughter.

"I fought for her in life. I did. She struggled, and I fought for her when she was here as hard as I could. And I’m not going to not fight for her now," she said.
