According to a criminal complaint, a witness told investigators that the victim came to her apartment to hang out that day. At one point, she and the victim fell asleep on an air mattress. The witness claimed she and the victim were awakened by Thomas "falling onto the air mattress from the living room window."

The complaint said Thomas was at the apartment to watch the witness' daughter while she went to work. At that time, the victim and Thomas got into a physical altercation.

Thomas allegedly hit the victim in the face before putting him in a headlock and dragging him off the mattress, the complaint said. Thomas then threw a remote control against a wall and walked out of the apartment and into the building hallway, according to the witness. The victim started to follow Thomas and that's when the witness heard a gunshot.

Per the complaint, a second witness told investigators she arrived home around 2:30 p.m. and saw a man's body in the hallway at the door of the other witness' apartment. The second witness identified Thomas as the first witness' boyfriend. The second witness also told investigators she saw Thomas walking away from the building after the gunshot.

Thomas made his initial court appearance on Oct. 22. Court records show his cash bond was set at $75,000.
