Mount Pleasant police seek suspect after attempted carjacking at Speedway gas station
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police are seeking a suspect after an attempted carjacking at the Speedway gas station on Washington Avenue on Thursday morning, October 22nd.It happened around 3:30 a.m.Police say the victim reported he had purchased items from inside the store and as he was placing the items inside his vehicle, the suspect approached him from the side of the building while displaying a pistol.The suspect then threatened to shoot the victim and demanded the victim get into the vehicle with him and drive.When the victim refused, the suspect fled south through yards on foot.The victim described the suspect as being a younger male black, approximately 5’10” tall with a thin build -- wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.A police K-9 officer was used to search the area for the suspect, but the suspect was not located.There were no injuries suffered during this incident.

The man was seen trying to stash the weapon after the confrontation, police say.The woman reported the man told her he was going to "shoot her."The 40-year-old Racine man was detained -- and police recovered a semi-automatic pellet pistol.Police say the man had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person at the time officers made contact with him.He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance, and then taken to jail on charges of second degree recklessly endangering safety and disorderly conduct while armed.This case has been referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office for charges.
