MILWAUKEE -- Firefighters say an attempt to stay warm resulted in a dozen people losing their home on Tuesday, January 12th.Firefighters battled a fire at a 16-unit apartment building near Hopkins and Fairmount that officials say was likely sparked by a space heater.With bitterly cold temperatures on Tuesday evening and Tuesday night, officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department said it may have been someone's effort to stay warm inside that sparked a fire that left a dozen people unable to return to their homes."The main fire was in the back apartment on the first floor.

MILWAUKEE -- Some students in Milwaukee will be bundled up warm for the winter, and they have firefighters and you to thank for it.Milwaukee firefighters have been raising money throughout the year to support the "Warm Up Winter" campaign.This past June alone, Milwaukee residents helped the Milwaukee Fire Department raise nearly $115,000.With the money, MFD has purchased new winter coats, which will be handed out to students at 18 schools in the city this year.A kickoff for the project was held Monday, November 9th at Forest Home Avenue School.
