GREEN BAY -- The Packers have released inside linebacker Desmond Bishop, who missed all of last year after suffering a torn hamstring during an exhibition game.Facing a logjam at the position after re-signing Brad Jones and restructuring the contract of A.J. Hawk, the team tried to trade Bishop, without success.The man who wore number fifty-five was scheduled to make almost 3.5 million dollars this season.The classy Bishop tweeted that he'll forever be thankful for being a member of the Packers.He is scheduled to have a visit with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.

Driver softball game raises over $3K for Feeding America

APPLETON (WITI) -- Donald Driver’s sold out Sixth Annual Charity Softball Game and Home Run Derby on Sunday raised $3,200 for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.For every home run hit in the Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton during the Home Run Derby on June 16, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans donated $200 to Feeding America.Together with the Donald Driver Foundation, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans presented a check for $3,200 to Feeding America before the softball game, enough money to provide 16,000 meals to children, families, seniors and individuals struggling with hunger in eastern Wisconsin.“Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is proud to be a partner of Donald Driver’s Charity Softball Game,” said Bonnie Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “On behalf of the many Wisconsin families that rely on our food bank for one of life’s most basic necessities, food, thank you for your generosity.”As the state’s largest food bank, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin provides food to 330,000 people every year, 105,000 of whom are children.

Donald Driver gets street, statue in Green Bay

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- Former Packers wide receiver Donald Driver was honored in Green Bay Saturday, June 15th, with a street named after him, as well as a statue.Hundreds of fans packed the corner of Dousman and Pearl near Titletown Brewing Company to see the unveiling of Donald Driver Way and the famous Packers statue, which was repainted with the number 80 to represent Driver."We have sealed the deal with this man, and he is ours forever now," said fan Dale Decker.Driver was truly humbled by the honors."From coming living on the streets to now having a street of your own, I would never have imagined in a million years that this would happen, so I think it's a tribute to my kids and my family of what we've been through," Driver said.Driver also participated in the dedication of a miniature Donald Driver Way at the Green Bay Children's Museum."This is probably better than having it on an actual street because that's where it all starts, you know, with your children and trying to rear them and nurture them to their full potential," said Driver's wife, Betina.Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt says the care that Driver's family showed the community will leave a lasting legacy."The way I see Donald Driver is a little bit more about community and a little less about football, and I feel it was appropriate," said Mayor Schmitt.Fans say they are grateful for everything Driver has brought to Green Bay."I think he exemplifies everything that is good about human beings," said Jennifer Garner."He's a great guy and he's a Packer through and through," said Glenda Truse.The Driver family will be in Wisconsin for the remainder of the weekend as Sunday, June 16th is the annual Donald Driver Charity Softball Game at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- To enhance the safety of fans at Lambeau Field, the Packers have announced an NFL policy that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into the stadium.The NFL Committee on Stadium Security in May unanimously recommended the implementation of this measure that will enhance public safety and make it easier for fans to gain access in all stadiums.

Wife of former Packers running back is suing NFL

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The wife of a former Green Bay Packers running back is suing the NFL.Lew Carpenter played from 1959 to 1963 for Vince Lombardi.He died in 2010.The lawsuit says studies of Carpenter's brain after his death showed long-term trauma.The lawsuit blames the NFL for putting him in danger and for covering up studies showing a link between concussions and brain damage.
