Milwaukee Bucks kick off 46th season in Milwaukee Saturday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The 46th season of pro basketball in Milwaukee is just days away, and the Bucks are giving fans plenty of new reasons to come out to the BMO Harris Bradley Center this season.After a busy summer of change, the Bucks’ many new additions will take center stage this Saturday, Nov. 2, when they host the Toronto Raptors at 7:30 p.m.Everywhere fans look they’re likely to see something new, including the brand-new, limited-edition Home Opener T-shirts that every fan in attendance will find on their seat when they arrive.Eleven new faces dot a Bucks opening roster that will be young, athletic and full of promise for the 2013-14 season and beyond.They run the spectrum from a two-time All-Star and 11-year veteran in Racine-native Caron Butler to 18-year-old Giannis Antetokounmpo, the youngest player in the NBA this season who already has the league buzzing from his exhibition play.Milwaukee also added a 21-year-old point guard with 135 career starts already under his belt in Brandon Knight, sharpshooters with playoff experience in O.J. Mayo and Gary Neal, and some familiar faces for Bucks fans in veterans Carlos Delfino, Zaza Pachulia and Luke Ridnour.This new group of players is under the direction of a brand new coaching staff that boasts a wealth of NBA playoff and championship experience.Larry Drew was named the 13th coach in Bucks history after reaching the playoffs in each of his three seasons at the helm in Atlanta.His staff includes Jim Cleamons, who has been a part of 10 NBA Championship teams during his time as a player and coach in the NBA, and Bob Bender, who holds the distinction of being the only collegiate player to appear in two NCAA Championship games with two different teams.Rounding out the staff are former NBA All-Star and Kenosha native Nick Van Exel, three-time NBA Champion and former Bucks big man Scott Williams, and skills coach Josh Oppenheimer.With so many new faces on the floor this season, the Bucks also want to see new faces in the crowd, and are encouraging all of Milwaukee to take advantage of brand new pricing for 2013-14 ticket packages.Over 5,000 season seats are now priced at $13 or less per game, and nearly 10,000 seats are priced at $24 or less per game.

Bango visits Milwaukee schools with an important message

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Screams and cheers filled the Longfellow Elementary gymnasium as a local celebrity visited the school.Bango from the Milwaukee Bucks and his physician, Doctor Cleo, stopped by to host Bango's Boot Camp."As the children start seeing his head poke out from the side of the room you just hear the energy level in the gym going up and the kids are just so excited to have a mascot at their school," said Molina Healthcare Director of Public Outreach Elizabeth Benz.During the event, Bango and Doctor Cleo demonstrated the importance of exercise through push up, basketball, and jump rope contests."He's jump roping to do exercise and exercise is healthy for you," said 4th grader Carla Fuentes.They also taught the children how to avoid getting the flu."Making sure the children are washing their hands effectively at this time of year, that they're coughing into their arms, talking to their parents about the importance of getting the flu vaccine so that hopefully we can keep everybody healthy this fall and throughout the holiday season," said Benz.These kids need to stay healthy so they can stay in school.Through skits, Bango showed the children they have to attend class to be successful."So you can be smart and learn and so you can go to college and do whatever you want to do when you're older," said 4th grader Areli Luevano.Hopefully, these are life long lessons the children learned while having plenty of fun.Bango's Boot Camp is a partnership between the Milwaukee Bucks, Molina Healthcare, and MPS.Bango and Doctor Cleo are visiting 15 schools throughout the year.

Bucks to help Milwaukee firefighters install smoke alarms

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Bucks have partnered with the Milwaukee Fire Department once again to help spread the message of the importance of having working smoke alarms.On Friday, October 11th the Bucks will help the Milwaukee Fire Department install smoke alarms through Project FOCUS (Firefighters Out Creating Urban Safety).Each year the Milwaukee Fire Department canvasses neighborhoods checking for working smoke alarms and offering fire safety tips.

Bucks introduce Caron Butler at Washington Park H.S.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- General Manager John Hammond and Head Coach Larry Drew formally introduced Caron Butler as the newest member of the Milwaukee Bucks at Washington Park High School in Racine on Thursday, September 5th.Butler was acquired by Milwaukee in a trade with the Phoenix Suns on Aug. 29.An 11-year professional, Butler played in 78 games (all starts) last season for the Los Angeles Clippers.
