Long-time MPS educator wins a prestigious award

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, a long-time substitute teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools wins a prestigious award.It's a contest sponsored by McDonald’s and Jammin’ 98.3 FM to find the "most loved" teacher in southeast Wisconsin.The winner is 89-year-old John Outlaw, who is a Special Ed substitute teacher at Alexander Hamilton High School.

Marquette students warned about sexual assaults on campus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A rise in sexual assaults on the Marquette University campus over the past few weeks has students on high alert.An email sent out on Thursday, May 2nd read in part: "During the past few weeks, multiple reports of acquaintance-related sexual assaults have been reported to the Department of Public Safety."The email also warns students to stay with friends, listen to their instincts, and if they choose to drink, to do so in moderation."It's obviously concerning, but I don't feel any danger being here," said junior Maureen Trattner.Marquette says every case has been reported to Milwaukee Police.

Riverview Dorm on UW-Milwaukee campus evacuated following fire

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Approximately 400 students in the Riverview Dorm on the UW-Milwaukee campus were evacuated from the building in the early morning hours of Monday, April  29th following a fire.According to officials, the small fire broke out in a paper towel holder just before 1:00 a.m. in the men's bathroom on the second floor.No additional details have been released at this time -- including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.
