MPS school breaks records for Jump Rope for Heart fundraising

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools’ Milwaukee German Immersion School has raised a record-breaking total – more than $22,000 – for Jump Rope for Heart to battle heart disease and stroke.

MGIS’ Jump Rope for Heart fundraising total is the largest any school in Milwaukee County has ever raised and includes the largest any Wisconsin school has ever raised online.

Now the world’s largest charitable event, Jump Rope for Heart’s roots are in Milwaukee Public Schools. Now-retired Riverside High physical education department chair Jean Barkow created the event in 1978. Jump Rope for Heart has since raised more than $750 million and more than 120 MPS schools have participated over the years.

MGIS will present a check to the American Heart Association on Friday, February 28th during a school program.
