Marquette University alerts students after robberies near campus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Marquette University's Department of Public Safety is warning students to be alert -- after two robberies in downtown Milwaukee near campus.On Saturday, August 23rd, there was a robbery near 14th and Kilbourn.

Student robbed at gunpoint, sexually assaulted feet from UWM campus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are seeking a suspect wanted for an armed robbery and sexual assault on Milwaukee’s East Side.Officers were dispatched to neighborhood just north of Locust and Oakland at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18th.A 19-year-old woman reported that she was approached by a man who demanded her belongings at gunpoint."A girl was saying to just take whatever she had and to just leave," said Joshua Sasman.Those are words Sasman never expected to hear outside of his window."I heard the man tell her to get on the ground, face down and to be quiet," said Sasman.The suspect then sexually assaulted the victim and took her property before fleeing on foot.Sasman called 911 -- and moments later saw the suspect flee.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools announced Monday, August 18th an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2014-2015 school year.The district is now among the first school systems in Wisconsin participating in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), which means that all students at 156 MPS elementary, middle and high schools will be able to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge, regardless of family income.MPS is able to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture program, which is federally funded, because of its high percentage of students who come from low-income households.

Police seek suspects in strong-armed robbery that occurred near Marquette campus Thursday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a strong-armed robbery that took place near the Marquette University campus on Thursday, July 24th.It happened just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday.Marquette's Department of Public Safety tells FOX6 News two suspects implied a weapon and demanded property.The victim handed over property, and the two suspects fled on foot southbound on 23rd Street.The victim, who was not affiliated with Marquette, was not injured.Milwaukee police and the Department of Public Safety are investigating.The first suspect is described as a black man, approximately 25 years old, approximately 6'1" tall.
