Milwaukee Wave host summer camps for kids and "they're really becoming smarter players"
NEW BERLIN (WITI) -- Throughout the Milwaukee Wave season, Ian Bennett is known for running, passing, and scoring goals. But during the summer he's not known as a player, but as a coach.
"You get to see them grow, you get to see some of these kids when we've had them when they were 7 and it's just amazing because now they're 14 and you're like am I getting old or are they just growing up fast," said Bennett.
Bennett along with his fellow Wave players and coaches host summer camps to teach kids the game they love.
"They're understanding the game and getting so much better when to pass, when to dribble, they're really becoming smarter players," said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero.
There are five-day camps and six-day, overnight camps for children 4 to 15. As the young ones develop their skills, their confidence grows.
"You're getting that much play time in that you feel a lot better with the ball and then the next time that you play when you have your actual soccer season with your team you're a lot better than you were last year," said 10-year-old Morgan Tews.
Many of the kids were also thrilled to meet some of their favorite players.
"I went to one Wave game before the camps it was the championship and like to meet all of the players that were playing and scoring goals it was kind of cool," said 10-year-old Aidan Tadych.
Hopefully, preparing them to one day join the Milwaukee Wave.
