Walker signs bill to change makeup of MATC board

MADISON (AP) -- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed a bill Thursday, April 12th that changes the makeup of the Milwaukee Area Technical College board.

The state Assembly passed the bill on a voice vote in March after passing in the Senate.

The bill removes all nine members of the MATC board and reorganizes it to include five employers. Democrats opposed the bill and called it a power grab. But Republicans stood by it, debating with Democrats off and on throughout the night and into the day.

Walker said the change fosters more collaboration between employers and educators.

They passed the bill without changes. Democrats had originally prepared more than 70 amendments.
