Three-month-old girl dies in home near 48th & Hadley, found lying face down on pillow

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the death of a three-month-old baby.

The baby girl died in a home near 48th and Hadley early on Wednesday morning, January 27th.

The preliminary manner of death has been ruled an accident.

According to the medical examiner's report, the baby girl was found by a babysitter around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, lying face down on a pillow in a chair.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report indicates there was no visible trauma to the child, and foul play isn't suspected in this case.

According to the report, the baby's mother picked up an overtime shift, and dropped the baby off at the babysitter's home between 1:45 and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. No concerns were noted throughout the day.

The report says the babysitter "laid her down in a chair" around 10:00 p.m. She told investigators the child was placed partially on her back and partially on her left side at an angle facing the front of the chair, with part of her back against the back of the chair. She was lying on top of a square-shaped throw pillow and a second throw pillow was placed next to it at the front of the chair. The baby was covered with a small blanket.

and when the baby was checked on by the babysitter for a second time at 3:00 a.m., the babysitter found the child face down in the chair on a pillow.

911 was immediately called.

The cause of death in this case is pending further toxicology testing.
