Teenager dies from injuries sustained in February crash

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- After a head-on collision with another vehicle on February 21st, 16-year-old James Jones sustained several injuries. On September 3rd, Jones succumbed to his injuries and his family is still waiting for an apology from the driver responsible for causing the accident.

Jones was riding as a passenger when his vehicle was cut off by another car. Jones' car skidded into oncoming traffic where the collision occurred. The accident, which happened at Sherman and Fairmount, left Jones with a collapsed lung, a caved in chest, and severe brain injuries.

"I think I'm still in shock, because I've always, from day one when I brought him home from the hospital, believed he would get up and return to almost normal, if not normal," said Jones' mother Sharita Williams.

Jones came home from the hospital in April and turned 17 in August. Williams says nothing had been normal since then.

"We had to be his eyes, his ears, his voice. We had to tube-feed him from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. We had to administer medicine to him from 9 to 11 p.m." said Williams. "He was not able to talk. He couldn't drink. He was dependent -- went from independent to being dependent on others for everything he needed."

Last September, FOX6 featured Jones as one of several Bradley Tech students working with Discovery World on a project that traced the history of Walker's Point. Jones also helped record an audio walking tour of the neighborhood.

Williams says she now listens to the recording just to hear her son's voice.

"He didn't deserve this and for someone to walk away and not turn back to even question -- and all I ever wanted was an apology. That's all I wanted was a sincere apology. Just say 'I'm sorry,'" said Williams.

Police have not found the driver who cut off the vehicle Jones was riding in. According to the Medical Examiner's report, investigators will review the case now that Jones has passed away.
