Shoppers taking advantage of deals, even on Thanksgiving Day!

Several stores weren't about to wait for shoppers to finish their turkey before kicking off the holiday shopping season, and one of those stores was Kmart in West Allis, which opened its doors early Thanksgiving morning. Shoppers stood outside in the cold Thursday morning, waiting for the store to open at 6:00 a.m.

Sandra Dollhopf was among those getting a jump on the deals early Thursday morning. She and other shoppers say hitting the aisles on Thanksgiving Day may be the best kept holiday shopping secret.

"Coming here is like a ghost town. There were no people out. I'd rather do this, than all the hustle and bustle, and pushing, and all of the attitude. It is very peaceful and quiet," Dollhopf said.

Kmart Store Manager Rick Roulet says deep discounts began Thursday morning at 6:00 a.m., and says Kmart has been opening early Thanksgiving morning for 20 years now! "It's something we've always done, and we have great success with it," Roulet said.

Shoppers said they were happy for the opportunity to zip in, and zip out, and not have to deal with lines, hassle, and saying up all night to get the great deals. After getting their shopping done, many said they were ready to go home and enjoy their turkey dinner!

Kmart is open until 9:00 p.m. Thanksgiving night, when they will close and completely revamp their store for Black Friday sales starting at 5:00 a.m.
