Several copper conductors stolen from WE Energies

CALEDONIA (WITI) -- Police say 66 copper ground conductors were stolen from a WE Energies substation on Thursday, May 30th.

The conductors, also called whips, are made up of 27 strands, run two to four feet in length, and are a green oxidized color. Some of the whips were lead coated and painted grey.

Together the stolen conductors weigh about 100 pounds and are valued at approximately $700.

The thief, or thieves, damaged breakers, pole-off structures, large steel structures, and a main transformer when cutting the copper. Authorities say it's possible the suspect was electrocuted while cutting one of the conductors.

Approximately 12 to 14 copper conductors were also taken from this substation about two weeks ago.
