11 hurt, 1 arrested after Racine crash
A Racine bus was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3. It happened near 16th and Murray.
RACINE, Wis. - Eleven people were injured and a woman was arrested after a crash involving a city bus in Racine on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3.
What we know:
The Racine Police Department said the collision happened just before 3:30 p.m. near 16th and Murray. A Nissan traveling west on 16th crossed into oncoming traffic, rear-ended a Jeep, then lost control and smashed into a city bus.

David Reyes was riding the bus home from work when the impact happened.

"[I] suddenly saw the driver trying to break and then I heard the impact of the bus from the car," Reyes said.
Police said the 11 people hurt in the crash are expected to recover. Most of the passengers on board were high school students.
"Did not expect that to happen. Everything seemed alright," Reyes said. "A lot of high school kids. I was the only, oldest person or adult on the bus."
Local perspective:
Elizabeth Martin, who lives nearby, said she ran outside after hearing the crash.
"I saw the car, just mangled, and then I came closer and saw the bus and was like, oh my God," she said.
Officers arrested the 20-year-old driver of the Nissan. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and remains in custody.

Neighbors said the wreck highlights ongoing concerns about reckless driving in the area.
"Too many people getting into accidents and getting hit by cars," Martin said.
