Parents scramble after threat prompts evacuation at Nicolet

GLENDALE (WITI) -- Nicolet High School has been deemed safe after two suspicious packages were located inside the building Wednesday morning, October 16th. The finding prompted an evacuation of the school — and school and all school-related activities were cancelled for the day. It all started when a handwritten note containing a vague threat was discovered inside the school. The incident had parents scrambling on Wednesday afternoon.

Following the discovery of the note and suspicious packages, students were first transferred to Cardinal Stritch University — and then to Glen Hills Middle School where they were reunited with family.

"I don't even know what to say. It's all very scary," Nicolet parent Amy Saffold told FOX6 News.

1,100 students were taken to Glen Hills Middle School, which served as the pickup location for those evacuated from Nicolet.

As parents arrived on Wednesday, traffic backed up and parking was scarce.

"You've got to sign your name on a clear board. You go back to your car and they bring the child out to you," Saffold said.

School staff members escorted students one-by-one to their parent's vehicle.

Some students told FOX6 News they had no idea what was going on until they were on the bus leaving Nicolet.

"The school sent out emails to the parents, but nothing to us," a Nicolet student told FOX6 News.

Any student who did not have someone pick them up was bused home from Glen Hills.

Classes are expected to resume at Nicolet on Thursday.
