Milwaukee police: Shots fired near Custer Stadium during homecoming game

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating after shots were fired near Custer Stadium on Thursday night, Sept. 27. The incident happened during the Riverside University High School vs. Rufus King High School homecoming game.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. -- right before the end of the first half.

Milwaukee police say the shots were fired across the street from the stadium. Staff immediately secured the stadium and police were already there as a precautionary measure due to the large crowd.

The commentators, at the time of the incident, said they weren't sure what happened but those who heard the shots won't forget.

"As a parent it's a very scary feeling out here to have your child out here. You don't know where those shots are coming from, who they're aiming at, it's a very scary feeling," said a parent.

"I'm not sending my children to high school so that they can be familiar with gunshots and have their life in danger. I want her to be able to go to a game and experience it to the fullest," said another parent.

The stadium was evacuated out of a precautionary measure but the game did go on.

Officials say no injuries were reported.
