A man with a lengthy criminal history is believed to be the one who caused a fatal hit-and-run crash at 34th and Lloyd.

He is a suspect in a crash that killed a pastor's wife. Now, additional charges have been filed against the man police say has a history of reckless driving.

What we know:

On Thursday, Jan. 23, prosecutors charged 30-year-old Donte Miller with leading police on two chases back in 2022 and 2023 – as well as felony gun and drug possession charges. Court documents reveal Miller is also the suspect in a fatal crash at 34th and Lloyd earlier this month.

Beverly Fair and her grandson left a loved one's house on Saturday evening, Jan. 4. Her grandson was driving when the two were hit by a speeding car at 34th and Lloyd. Beverly Fair did not survive that crash.

Court filings say police traced the striking car back to Miller and his apartment – less than a mile from the crash.

Investigators later learned Miller got a spare key from the property manager to get into his apartment less than 30 minutes after the wreck.

Filings say it started when officers were patrolling near 35th and Vine and spotted Miller's car without a front license plate – and began to follow it to conduct a traffic stop. But instead, the vehicle sped off up 34th Street towards Lloyd.

Miller is not charged in connection to the case, but is named in multiple court documents as the suspect.

Court records show Miller has a history with police caught on camera. In March 2018, West Allis police pulled over a vehicle, but it then sped off. The driver sped and swerved through lanes, crossing the center line. Police used stop sticks, but the driver got on the freeway, wheels sparking. He eventually ditched the car and ran across the lanes of traffic.

Miller was 23 years old at the time. He was convicted in that case.

On Thursday, prosecutors charged Miller with fleeing from police in two separate incidents back in 2022 and 2023 — as well as drug and weapons charges.

A warrant is out for Miller's arrest. Milwaukee police ask if you know something, to give them a call.
