Indianapolis family thankful for dog who saved baby from kidnapping
INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis family is thankful to their furry family member this Thanksgiving. They say intruders tried to make off with their three-month-old baby...until the dog stepped in the way.
Nayeli Garzon and her three-month-old baby girl are lucky to be alive.
It was early when Garzon was on the phone with her husband. She heard a sound at the back door.
"I told her, 'Go check who is it because I'm already at my job.' In the same second we're talking, I hear the noise over my phone and she started screaming and crying, and said somebody just stick their hand in the door," Garzon's husband said.
A woman and man had broken in, and were in the kitchen.
"The guy (said) and the lady 'Give me the money or we take the baby. I said 'I don't have any,'" Garzon said.
When Garzon didn't hand over the money, the woman grabbed the baby. A scuffle ensued, and the man then struck Garzon with a gun.
The woman then ran toward the back door, carrying the baby, and tried to get away.
The woman was stopped by one of the couple's dogs at the back door. The woman was forced to run toward the front door, throwing the baby back at Garzon.
"Thank God everything's fine -- my baby and my wife," Garzon's husband said.
