Drunk driving victim's mother seeks justice

MILWAUKEE -- Early on the morning of March 11, 2011, a drunk driver hit and killed Nancy Tomashek's son, 30-year-old Michael Grabowski, at the intersection of 33rd and Lincoln, in Milwaukee.

Witnesses say Grabowski was in the street, tending to a man who had just been hit by a car, when another car, driven by then 18-year-old, Jasmine Lyboualong drove through, hitting and killing Grabowski. "My son went to help someone who needed help, and then somebody had no regard, at all, and took his life," Tomashek said.

Monday morning, Lyboualong is scheduled to be sentenced, after pleading "no contest" to two felony charges: homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, and reckless driving, causing great bodily harm. Tomashek says she'll be there to ask the judge to consider her loss in determining an appropriate punishment. "I dedicated my life to raising this wonderful young man, and then just like a thief in the night, she stole him from me," Tomashek said.
