Burglary suspects arrested after MPD 300 burglary announcement

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police Wednesday, September 12th announced 300 burglaries in the month of August alone, and just after that announcement, District 7 officers were able to arrest two burglary suspects.

At 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, MPD responded to a burglary in progress in the 2800 block of N. 86 St.  Police say the suspect had cut the rear screen to gain entry.

Police have said many of these recent burglaries involve suspects gaining entry into residences through unlocked/opened doors or windows, cutting window screens or pushing in A/C units.

During this most recent burglary, an MPD officer found a computer and safe at the rear door of the unit, leading the responding officers to believe that the suspect had a lookout because they left in a hurry, leaving the items behind.

The police dispatcher put the description of the suspects over the air for squads in the area. Shortly thereafter, MPD located the suspects in the 8500 block of W. Center Street.

The officers spoke to the suspects and they gave conflicting stories as to why they were in the area. One suspect confessed to being the lookout for the burglary and both men were arrested.
