Bikers ride in memory of murder victim, Cody Reetz

MEQUON -- Over 100 gathered Saturday for the 3rd Annual poker run in memory of Cody Reetz. Reetz was killed by his stepfather, Charles Avey, in 2009.

"It means a lot. I mean it's amazing how people do remember the story and still support us and help us try and raise money to do this for him," said Reetz's mother, Trista Ziehr.

To commemorate Cody, his family hopes to build a skatepark in his name. So far they've raised more than $13,000, but still have a long way to go.

"It takes time. It's a lot of money to raise and we'll get there eventually," said Reetz's aunt, Gina Schroeder.

Family members say the skate park will not only benefit the community, but is something Cody himself would have loved.

"He would love to have this skatepark, that's all that matters.  He would have absolutely loved to have this skatepark," Schroeder said.

In October of 2009, Reetz was found in the back of a car in a Walmart parking lot. Prosecutors say Charles Avey strangled the teen, as pay back for his wife calling the cops on him.  Prosecutors say Avey had previously beat his wife.   Avey was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
