Dig deeper:
It comes as Norman just earned a second term as chief. He was out of town at a police chief conference in Texas as the city’s Fire and Police Commission voted to appoint Norman to a second, four-year term as police chief.

His contract was set to expire Nov. 15.
Executive director of the city's FPC, Leon Todd, said the fact this happened at the police chief's home shouldn't be misconstrued.
"Crime is trending in the right direction in the City of Milwaukee," Todd said. "I think, again, we have a police chief that is committed to bringing new and innovative ways to reduce violent crime, reckless driving and to do it in a holistic, community-oriented way."
Several members of the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression voiced their opposition to Norman's reappointment, including issues with the process.

Still, Norman has strong support from the FPC.
"Norman is unequivocally the best police chief that's been here since I've been here," Vice Chair Bree Spencer said. "Now, totally agree with everything that's been said. Not perfect, can and do hold his feet to the fire."
What's next:
Criminal charges for the man are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
