Thousands of flights across the U.S. were canceled or delayed Wednesday after a government system that offers safety and other information to pilots broke down, stranding some planes on the ground for hours.

Southwest announced five promotions to help with operations. The airline canceled thousands of flights in late December because of a winter storm.

President Macky Sall tweeted that the collision happened in Gnivy village, in the Kaffrine region, at about 3:30 a.m.

Columbus, Georgia; Del Rio, Texas; and Long Beach, California will lose American Airlines service this spring.

Americans Airlines disagreed with the department's findings.

Domestic round trips are expected to drop to $258 in January before rising again.

More than 1,600 Southwest flights were delayed Tuesday, while 140 were canceled.

A plane coming into Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport from Mexico slid off the taxiway Tuesday evening, airport officials confirmed.

“We disrupted many of our customers’ travel and holiday plans, and for that, we are truly sorry,” a spokesperson for Southwest told FOX.

The National Transportation Safety Board reportedly said that a plane was parked at the gate when the ground crew worker was "ingested into the engine."

While the passengers missed any New Year's Eve plans they may have had, the airline said it did everything it could to be accommodating.

Southwest has issued apologies to customers over thousands of flight cancelations and travel disruptions.

Southwest was the only airline unable to recover from storm-related delays that began over the weekend when snow, ice and high winds raked portions of the country.

Another 2,500 flights are being pulled from arrival and departure boards Wednesday and more are expected throughout the day.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also said his agency would examine Southwest's cancellations and whether the airline was meeting its legal obligations to stranded customers.

The company did not elaborate on what led to the conflict.
