Brewers extend contracts for Melvin, Roenicke

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers have announced contract extensions for General Manager Doug Melvin and Manager Ron Roenicke.Melvin’s extension carries through the 2015 season, while Roenicke’s contract will go through 2014 with a Club Option for 2015.Melvin was named to his post on September 26, 2002 and is in his 10th season with the Brewers.

Brewers host All-Star balloting party at UWM Tuesday

All-Star balloting party at UW-Milwaukee's Union (2200 East Kenwood Boulevard) Tuesday, May 8th.The party will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.Fans will have an opportunity to cast their votes on a paper ballot or through online balloting via the laptop computers in the UWM Union All-Star Polling District.

Brewers Alex Gonzalez out for the season

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke says shortstop Alex Gonzalez will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season.Gonzalez was injured Saturday, sliding into second base during the Brewers' 5-2 loss at San Francisco.Signed to a one-year deal before the season with the hopes of shoring up the Brewers' defense, Gonzalez had performed well at shortstop and at the plate, where he was hitting .259 with four home runs and 15 RBI.Veteran infielder Cesar Izturis is expected to get most of the starts at shortstop.He is the second infielder in a week the Brewers have lost to a knee injury.
