Navy: 8 injured, 1 seriously, in explosion at N.J. base's boathouse

(CNN) -- Eight people were injured -- one seriously -- in an explosion at a naval weapons station's boathouse in New Jersey Tuesday morning, the U.S. Navy said.The blast at Naval Weapons Station Earle happened at about 9 a.m. while workers were performing maintenance on a vessel, the Navy said in a news release.Though all eight were taken to hospitals, none has life-threatening injuries, and by early Tuesday afternoon, one of the eight had been treated and released, the Navy said.Seven workers suffered minor injuries, mostly from smoke inhalation, the Navy said."The situation is stabilized.

44 evacuated after rig blows out in Gulf of Mexico

(CNN) -- Forty-four workers were evacuated from a natural gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday after a blowout occurred, according to officials.Crew members aboard the Hercules 265 were preparing the well for production when they hit an unexpected pocket of gas.No injuries were reported.Officials had said earlier that 47 workers were evacuated.While gas is flowing from the well, "no oil is being released," according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.The platform, about 60 miles southwest of Grand Isle, Louisiana, is leased by Houston-based Walter Oil & Gas Corporation.
