NEW YORK — President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is temporarily halting his trademark rallies — as his campaign bows to the coronavirus outbreak that is rapidly reshaping the nation's political landscape.The rallies have long been President Trump's most potent political weapon: They energize the candidate, give him a powerful platform from which to attack his adversaries and allow his team to collect a treasure trove of voter data.But the spread of the virus, which has closed schools and shuttered professional sports leagues, has also touched the 2020 presidential campaign.

Stock markets recover after turbulent trading

'Working around the clock:' Milwaukee officials preparing for coronavirus cases, more tests

MILWAUKEE -- City of Milwaukee health officials said in an address Thursday, March 12 that there will not be mandatory school or business closures due to coronavirus at this time.While not mandating closures, the city echoed the state's call for any event involving 250 people or more to be canceled as a way to prevent the community spread of the virus.

STEVENS POINT --  The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association determined all remaining games of the State Girls Basketball Tournament, and the boys basketball sectional finals and the State Tournament will be canceled in response to the evolving concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.Any tickets purchased at school will be refunded by your school and not the Resch Center or the WIAA.“I want the student-athletes and their coaches to know that your school leaders, the WIAA Executive Staff, our committees and the Board of Control have done everything imaginable to try to provide and preserve these opportunities for you,” Executive Director Dave Anderson said. “However, we want and need to be responsible in helping the global and state efforts to stem the tide and spread of this virus.”According to a press release, on Thursday, March 12 the WIAA was informed the Kohl Center would not be available for the State Boys Basketball Tournament scheduled for March 19-21.

NBA says virus hiatus will likely last 'at least' a month

MIAMI — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Thursday night that the league’s hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic will likely last at least a month, or roughly what would have been the remainder of an uninterrupted regular season.“What we determined today is that this hiatus will be, most likely, at least 30 days," Silver said on TNT's “Inside The NBA" while making his first public comments since the league suspended play Wednesday night after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus, or COVID-19.

No fans, now no players: PGA Tour shuts down for a month

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Players Championship went from having no fans to having no players.In a surprise announcement Thursday night, the PGA Tour canceled the rest of The Players Championship and decided to shut down its other tournaments for the next three weeks.Only 10 hours earlier, as the opening round was underway and fans continued to stream into the TPC Sawgrass, Commissioner Jay Monahan announced no fans would be allowed at tour events for the next month because of the fears over the new coronavirus outbreak.It was a bold decision in light of other leagues either suspending play or canceling entire tournaments.And then the tour changed course.“We did everything possible to create a safe environment for our players in order to continue the event throughout the weekend,” the tour said in a statement. “But at this point — and as the situation continues to rapidly change — the right thing to do for our players and our fans is to pause.”Monahan scheduled a news conference for Friday morning for additional details.The Players Championship is the flagship event of the PGA Tour that offers a $15 million purse, the richest in golf.
