Police investigating bomb threat at University of Wisconsin

MADISON (AP) — Authorities are investigating an overnight bomb threat at the University of Wisconsin.The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police sent out an alert just before 1 a.m. Friday, asking people to leave Memorial Union and avoid the surrounding area.Police issued an update about two hours later to inform the campus community that the situation had ended.The area around Memorial Union has since reopened.No further details have been released.

A simple "spit test:" Engineers at UWM awarded grant to develop sensor to detect Ebola virus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and the Georgia Institute of Technology have been awarded a grant to develop a sensor that can be used to immediately detect the Ebola virus with a simple “spit” test.Junhong Chen, a UWM professor of mechanical and materials engineering, will use a sensor platform he created to detect water contamination to make the low-cost virus sensor.The nearly $100,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) aims to arm public health responders with tools for rapid detection and containment of an Ebola outbreak.
