MPS Superintendent among group of school leaders to meet with President Barack Obama in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Darienne Driver met with President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. on Monday, March 16th.President Obama addressed a group of leaders of school districts from across the country as part of the Great City Schools' three-day annual conference in Washington.The following individuals took part in the meeting with President Obama:

February 20 is the last day of MPS’ "Three-Choice Enrollment" period

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools is encouraging families who are new to MPS or looking for a new school for the fall to enroll by Friday night to take advantage of the best opportunity for a seat at their first-choice school.February 20 is the last day of MPS’ ‘Three-Choice Enrollment’ period, which allows families to choose three schools for the fall.School options include strong neighborhood schools that prepare students to succeed in college and careers as well as specialty schools focused on Advanced Placement coursework, the arts, bilingual education, Career and Technical Education, Gifted and Talented education, rigorous International Baccalaureate college preparatory programming, language immersion and Montessori education."90 percent of families get one of their three choices," said Tony Tagliavia, MPS spokesperson.All applications filed during the Three-Choice period (and at the All-School Enrollment Fair) are treated equally.

Milwaukee (WITI) -- Hundreds of families spent the day at MPS's All-School Enrollment Fair on Saturday, January 31st.More than 100 Milwaukee Public Schools were there.For those who showed up, they were able to choose their top 3 choices for their kids for next fall.

Police: School bus carrying 20 students involved in crash near 43rd & Oklahoma

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say a school bus and a vehicle were involved in a crash on Wednesday afternoon, January 14th near the intersection of S. 43rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue.Milwaukee Public Schools spokesman Tony Tagliavia tells FOX6 News 20 students were on the bus at the time of the crash.No injuries were reported.The bus was serving Manitoba School, which is located near S. 43rd Street and Forest Home Avenue.School officials contacted parents regarding the crash.Police described the crash as "minor."Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this story.
