"There are people we need to protect:" MPD holds roll call in the street as school year ends
MILWAUKEE -- The "last student attendance day" for Milwaukee Public Schools students this school year is Monday, June 13th -- and on Thursday, June 9th, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn held a roll call in the street in an effort to make sure the last few days of the school year are safe ones.
The roll call was held outside James Madison Academic Campus on Milwaukee's northwest side.
Police said there will be community outreach officers around the schools through Monday.
"The point of the roll call...we do this every year on the last day of school. It's certainly not to act as though all our students being released for the summer are a problem -- but there are people we need to protect, and we need to protect them in the neighborhoods they live in, which are all over the city," Flynn said.
MPS high school students were taking final exams on Thursday, June 9th and Friday, June 10th.
The last official day of school is Monday.
