MLB expected to add two wild-card teams to playoffs

MILWAUKEE -- Major League Baseball is expected to finalize a new postseason format that would expand the playoffs from eight to ten teams.

The new format will add a second wild-card team to each league. The announcement is expected Thursday, which is the deadline for the 2012 season.

Under the new format, the two wild-card teams will meet in a single-game playoff. Each League's three division winners would get a first-round bye. The fourth and fifth place teams would play one game to determine the wild-card.

The World Series is expected to begin October 24.
