Worker struck, killed while on public works crew in Walworth Co.
WALWORTH CO. -- 66-year-old Gerald Himebauch, a Walworth County Public Works employee, was struck and killed by a Mack Dump Truck operated by fellow Public Works employee Daniel Truck in the Town of Troy Monday morning, July 23rd. The accident happened around 9:45 a.m. on County Highway J.
Himebauch was struck while Truck was performing a "backing maneuver" in the Mack Dump Truck on Highway J.
Flight for Life was called to the scene, but first responders pronounced Himebauch dead at the scene of the accident.
The Wisconsin State Patrol with help from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
Himebauch has worked for the Walworth County Department of Public Works for 19 years, and Truck has been with the department for 15 years.
In a news release issued Monday afternoon, officials said: "All of us in Walworth County government are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our condolences and prayers to the family."
Jean and John O'Brien say they feared something had happened when they heard Flight for Life Monday morning near their home.
"It really scared me. It's something serious when that happens," Jean O'Brien said.
John O'Brien said he and Jean have lived near where Monday's incident occurred for 40 years, and accidents don't happen often in the area.
"Busy intersection, then, construction work. Gotta be careful," John O'Brien said.
