Waukesha will likely miss court-ordered 2018 deadline to secure new water source

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Waukesha is likely to miss its court-ordered 2018 deadline to secure a new source of drinking water.

The city will likely ask a court to extend the deadline.

Waukesha's current system of wells doesn't meet federal radium standards on days of heavy use.

Waukesha officials plan to purchase water from Oak Creek, but that plan remains under review by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

If that is approved, the plan must be endorsed by a council of governors of states bordering the Great Lakes.
