Wauk. Co. D.A. Brad Schimel to run for Attorney General
WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel on Wednesday, October 9th filed a campaign registration statement for the office of Wisconsin Attorney General, while also announcing the endorsement of 17 district attorneys from across the state.
District Attorney Schimel is preparing for a formal announcement regarding his candidacy, but he said the strong outpouring of initial endorsements among frontline prosecutors demonstrates the broad support he’s earning among law enforcement. Current Attorney General JB Van Hollen recently announced he would not seek a third term.
“I’m overwhelmed by the number of law enforcement leaders stepping forward to endorse my pending campaign for attorney general,” District Attorney Schimel said. “The Department of Justice plays a critical role in partnering with local law enforcement to enhance public safety across the state, and I’m honored by the trust and support law enforcement is placing in me.”
District Attorney Schimel announced the first wave of law enforcement endorsements since he signaled a likely run for Attorney General:
