'Very sad:' Man shot, killed near 25th and National; no one in custody

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that happened early Tuesday morning, June 26 on the city's south side. It happened near 25th and National around 4:10 a.m.

Police identified the victim as a 38-year-old man.

Those who heard the shots thought it may have been early Fourth of July fireworks, until they saw the lights and heard the sirens.

"Between the firecrackers and the gunshots, it's extremely hard to tell the difference between the two, but I did hear a rapid succession of banging like 'pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,'" said Bianca Gonzalez.

Gonzalez ran back inside and ducked. She said gun violence is not unusual near the alley where others heard the gunfire and called police.

"I was like 'oh my goodness -- again? Something else has happened now?'" said Gonzalez.

Police are seeking suspects and a motive.

Milwaukee police said the investigation is active and ongoing.
