VA holds Memorial Day ceremony at Wood National Cemetery

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The annual Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Memorial Day ceremony was held on Monday, May 27th at Wood National Cemetery, near the War Memorial.

The guest speaker was Steve Muro, under secretary for memorial affairs in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"They gave their tomorrows, so that today, we could have our todays," Muro said.

Despite gray skies and rain, hundreds reflected on those lives lost for freedom.

"We`re thankful for what they did for us.  The freedom that they fought for, they we still have and can enjoy today," attendee Marvin Engle said.

The Milwaukee American Legion Band began a pre-program concert followed by the presentation of colors.

There was also a vintage aircraft flyover and presentation of wreaths. Immediately following the ceremony will be a “Voices of Wood National Cemetery,” which highlights some of the men and women buried on our grounds.
