Unresponsive 6-year-old boy pulled from water in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was pulled from the water at a beach located at Yahr County Park in the Township of Farmington.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 28th.

Authorities say the boy and one of his friends were swimming and playing near the edge of the marked swimming area when the boy went under the water, came back up briefly, waving his arms and hands above his head and then went under the water again.

When he went under the second time, he did not resurface.

Realizing something was wrong, the mother of the boy and a friend pulled him from the water and immediately began CPR.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident and the boy was transported by Newburg Fire and Rescue to Children's Hospital.

Officials say the boy was conscious and breathing when they took him the hospital but his condition remains unknown at this time.
