Two people killed in collision in Town of Plymouth

PLYMOUTH -- Two people were killed in a collision between a car and tanker truck in the Town of Plymouth Thursday afternoon. It happened on Highway 57 just north of Highway C around 2:30 p.m.

Officials say the tanker truck was southbound on Highway 57 approaching the intersection of Kiley Way. The Ford Focus car was headed northbound on Hwy. 57 and signaling to make a left turn to travel west on Kiley War. The intersection is controlled by traffic lights.

Traffic on Hwy. 57 had the green light, but the driver of the Focus failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of the tanker truck. The collision sent the tanker truck into a ditch, and left the Focus crumpled.

The two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt. An industrial tow truck was needed to bring the tanker truck back onto the road.

The collision is now under investigation by the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office and an inspector from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The names of the victims are expected to be released Friday morning.

Alyson Sass works not far from the intersection where the collision occurred Thursday afternoon. "All of a sudden I just looked outside, and I saw sirens and helicopters and people were coming inside and asking me what was going on," Sass said. "It was just kind of shocking to see that big of an accident. I'd give their families my deepest sympathies."
