Towing companies benefit from winter weather conditions

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- While the winter weather can make for perilous driving, it also means big business for some companies, such as towing businesses, which are seeing more work this season than entire years in recent history.

The crew at Express Towing and Recovery spent Saturday morning, January 25th dragging cars out of ditches and towing vehicles from accident scenes.

"The roads were terrible. Even the other storms we've had, this morning, for some reason, even the tow trucks, we couldn't stop," said owner Jim Weyandt. "We probably made more in the last two months that we did all year for the last three or four winters."

Conditions in Waukesha County Saturday morning resulted in 25 vehicles in ditches, 13 accidents resulting in property damage and nine injuries.

"All of which was a result of just not giving enough distance between the vehicles, not taking your time, speeds too high due to the weather," said Lt. Anthony Kasta with the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.

Waukesha County also saw two hit-and-runs and a jack-knifed semi during the latest winter storm. Authorities are reminding drivers to slow down and leave enough distance between the vehicle in front of you.
