HUDSON, Wis. (WITI) -- Two of the biggest names in the GOP teamed up in Hudson, Wisconsin on Monday, September 29th. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made the trip to Wisconsin to campaign for Governor Scott Walker ahead of the general election on November 4th.
Governor Chris Christie is the chairman of the Republican Governors Association -- and he has campaigned for Governor Walker in the past.
Governor Walker and Governor Christie`s first stop Monday was "Empire Bucket," a local company that hopes to add more jobs before the end of the year.
The company has been a part of Hudson, Wisconsin since 1986. The manufacturing company with about 45 workers provided the backdrop for two GOP powerhouses on Monday.
"From where I sit, as the Governor of New Jersey, watching, and what I`ve gotten to know being this guy's friend - this is a good man you have," Governor Christie said of Governor Walker.
Governor Christie campaigned for Governor Walker in 2010 and 2012. Governor Walker has said the two have a lot in common, and both are often mentioned as potential Republican presidential candidates in 2016.
"He would do good at any executive position he wanted to pursue, but I know this much, because I`ve spoken to him about it, he`s not focused on anything beyond November 4th -- and neither am I," Governor Christie said.
With the election in Wisconsin the focus, both men headed to the Hudson GOP headquarters to help energize their base.
"I like Governor Christie because he speaks from the heart and he thinks pretty much like our Governor Walker," Hudson voter Richard Johnson said.
Governor Walker talked about his track record creating jobs and right-sizing the state, while Governor Christie took aim at Democratic challenger Mary Burke.
"If you can`t trust her honesty and integrity when she tells you this is her plan, why would you trust her on anything else she tells you?" Governor Christie said.
In front of a packed house, the message was heard loud and clear.
"If we get all the Republicans out - especially all the church people - I think he`ll win," a Hudson voter said.
From Hudson, Governor Christie heads to Ohio, and Governor Walker will continue on the campaign trail.
