MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- You're running out of time to get your special someone flowers for Valentine's Day and the cold weather isn't helping!
It's one of the biggest days for flowers, yet the weather still gets to call the shots.
When it comes to Valentine's Day, Jamie Foshey plans for the worst -- after all, it's February in Wisconsin.
"Weather definitely plays a factor. Florists get very nervous about snow leading up to Valentine's Day because if we have deliveries they have got to get out," said Foshey, works at Leaves Floral Design.
The good news there, no new snow! The bad news, the holiday for lovers has gotten weather's cold shoulder. Highs today were in the single digits -- even brief exposure is harmful.
"So we are double wrapping everything that goes out today making sure that the people are actually home before they bring the flowers to the door," said Foshey.
If the buyer can't be reached, the flowers stay put and will be delivered on Sunday, February 15th.
"So we leave a tag on their door, give them a call and rearrange it for tomorrow," said Foshey.
Making more than one trip for a single order isn't going to wilt profits too much.
Even though they're on the way up, gas prices are still cheaper than a year ago.
And a note for the ladies, Foshey says she's noticed men spending more on flowers this year than last.
Foshey says she'll take the cold over snow, adding it's easier to address frigid temps, and much harder to deliver when the roads are bad.
