Six Marquette fraternities placed on probation

MILWAUKEE -- Six Marquette University fraternities have been placed on probation as of February 16th through Fall of 2012 for alcohol-related violations.

Marquette University said in a statement Monday the frats violated their own organizational policies, as well as those of the university and the interfraternity council, but would not give specifics on the violations.

Marquette University says probation is a formal notice to an organization that its behavior is unacceptable within the university community, and if continued, more severe action may be taken.

The organizations have not been suspended, and have the right to appeal the probation. Marquette says the decisions are the result of the outcome of a student conduct hearing.
