ShotSpotter alerts officers to shots fired, 28-year-old Milwaukee man arrested

MILWAUKEE -- ShotSpotter technology helped officers from District 5 arrest a convicted felon with a gun on the Milwaukee's north side.

ShotSpotter, a gunfire locator system that pinpoints precise locations from which gunshots were fired, alerted officers to a shot fired in the 4100 block of N. 27th Street around 3:35 a.m. on August 22. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a man walking with a gun in his hand.

As the officers approached him, the suspect threw the gun into a nearby field. The suspect, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man and a convicted felon on previous drug charges, was taken into custody.

The 9mm handgun he threw in the field was recovered and a breathalyzer test revealed the suspect’s blood alcohol content was .24.

This case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for charges in the coming days.
