A 13-year-old male was swimming with his friends and began struggling before going underwater.

Recovery efforts resumed on Wednesday, July 16 for a 13-year-old boy at Jaycee Quarry Park in Sheboygan. 

Boats and divers are actively working in the areas where the individual was last seen. Recovery efforts will continue throughout the day, provided weather and water conditions remain safe for rescue personnel.

Sheboygan officials provide update on missing swimmer

Officials hold a news conference on Wednesday morning to provide an update on the water recovery effort at Jaycee Quarry Park in Sheboygan.

What we know:

The Sheboygan Fire Department said a call came in shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15 from people at Jaycee Quarry Park in Sheboygan. A 13-year-old boy was swimming with his friends and began struggling before going underwater.

After approximately 90 minutes of continuous rescue efforts, the incident transitioned to a recovery operation. All responding agencies continued coordinated recovery operations on site until the search was called due to visibility and diver safety.

Fire officials said the search included the Sheboygan County Dive Team, Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office, the Sheboygan Police Department, City of Sheboygan Public Works, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, a K-9 search unit and the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Both the DNR and MFD provided sonar assistance to try and locate the victim.

The Sheboygan Police Department said Jaycee Quarry Park will be closed on Wednesday to swimming and disc golf. Police are asking for the public to remain out of the area until they give further notice.
