Sade Robinson memorial gets 2nd chance with fundraiser
MILWAUKEE - New life is being breathed into a permanent memorial for a slain Milwaukee teen.
What we know:
Last week, Milwaukee County leaders said public backlash – some of it hateful and racist – has derailed plans for a proposed memorial for Sade Robinson.

Since April 2024, Sheena Scarbrough has been dealing with the traumatic loss of her 19-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors say the teen was killed and dismembered following a first date. Her severed remains were later found scattered across Milwaukee County, including Warnimont Park.
What they're saying:
"We don’t have all of my baby's remains, we don’t still have all of my baby’s remains," Scarbrough said. "We don’t have a gravesite to go to. This is still the hardest thing I’ve ever done."
On her quest for justice, her mother asked county supervisors to sponsor a $7,000 memorial at Warnimont Park in Cudahy.
"A bench, a tree to represent her light, what she gave, a plague, an honor," she said.
The resolution was met with backlash from those who didn't want to spend taxpayers' dollars.
What's next:
Omar Shaikh, the co-owner of Carnevor in downtown Milwaukee and 3rd Street Market Hall, said he became emotional after learning there was so much backlash over the memorial. He’s now stepping up to help her grieving family.
He said he would be fundraising the remaining $4,000 needed for the memorial with a dinner.

"It was tragic what happened and I don’t know why this was made racial, and I was just like let’s let the family know we got this," Shaikh said."The food hall, we have three units from Pizza Shuttle and they employed her for many years and I heard nothing but incredible things about Sade."

Scarbrough has founded a nonprofit called Sade's Voice Foundation.
She said once they have the donations, they will seek approval from the county to move forward with the memorial.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help.
Shaikh said he is still working on the details of the fundraiser, but plans to have those within the next two weeks.
