RNC chairman says Wis. Republicans energized

MADISON (AP) -- Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says in a memo released Monday that Wisconsin Republicans mobilized to combat the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker will pave the way toward defeating President Barack Obama in the fall.

Priebus released the memo the day before the state's Republican presidential primary.

Obama carried Wisconsin by 14 points in 2008 but Republicans have had big gains since then, including Walker's win in 2010.

Priebus says Republicans have invested in voter databases, refined microtargeting, and made over 1 million calls to Wisconsin voters the past three months. He says the party has a "sophisticated and aggressive turnout program" that is "ready to pounce on the president and other Democrats."

State Democratic Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski calls the Priebus memo a "tea party fantasy."
